For Every Game in the Fall
Have the house scrubbed down and looking good. Make
sure the halls are vacuumed, the stairwells swept and
mopped, etc. Buy a vacuum if you have to, but there
is no excuse for the house not to be clean—and
that means rooms like the library, pool room, parlor
and the individual rooms too. Take some pride in your
own house. Empower your house manager, and then back
him up.
Have a delegation of guys who remain posted at the
house on game weekends. Their role is to greet alumni,
chat with them, show them around, answer questions,
etc. We strongly suggest having at least six guys.
The chapter’s undergraduate officers need to
speak with all the members to review the basics of
general friendliness and hospitality. If they were
in their parents’ home and saw some stranger
walking around the living room, I doubt they’d
just go upstairs and not say “Hello, can I help
you?” It’s no different at the chapter
house—it’s home to all of you, so try to
get the members to be more aware about being friendly
and speaking to strangers.
